A RANGE OF CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The professional skills present at Port of Bordeaux authority are extremely diverse (see organisational chart) and often involve highly specialised training. Job offers are advertised internally and externally (via the Union of French Ports, Job Centres, Agencies for Disabled Workers, organisations specialising in placing qualified workers, specialised schools etc.). All job applications are kept on file, and whenever a position becomes available the Human Resources department will review the applications received in the previous 12 months that correspond to the job description and contact the potential applicants.

THREE SEPARATE CATEGORIES

As the Port of Bordeaux is a state-owned facility, employees fall into three distinct categories: most port employees are on private employment contracts, subject to the ‘Ports and Loading’ National Unified Collective Employment Convention; there are also sailors (officers and ordinary sailors), employed under the usual conditions of the merchant navy, and a small number of civil servants who are assigned to the port by their department for postings of fixed duration.
The workforce comprises some 330 people.
Dockers, contrary to popular belief, are not official employees of the port.

PLACEMENTS

We can only accept written requests for placements from students whose studies include a job placement requirement. Places are limited but, when it is possible to arrange a placement which matches a candidate’s requirements and profile, he or she will be assigned a placement supervisor, who will be responsible for overseeing the trainee’s integration with the permanent teams. Placements of more than 2 months qualify for a remuneration equivalent to 12.5% of the hourly social security cap multiplied by the number of hours worked (35 hours per week).
Work experience trainees are covered by a three-way contract (signed by the trainee, their school or college and the company in which they will be working) which sets out the objectives of the placement, the obligations of the trainee and of the host company and the insurance and civil liability coverage of the trainee in the event of a workplace accident.
