Atlantic Port of Bordeaux is committed to a policy of sustainable development.
The port promotes sea transportation and intermodal freight.

Environmental policy

Atlantic Port of Bordeaux is currently drawing up is 2013-2015 environmental strategy.

Various initiatives are scheduled in areas such as:

  • The management of industrial waste,
  • The implementation of a management plan for 600 hectares of wetlands in Le Verdon,
  • The preparation of a Management Plan for sediments in the Gironde estuary,
  • Controlling the installation of fishing nets in the Bordeaux area.

These projects are overseen by the Atlantic Port of Bordeaux Environmental Department, whose main objectives are to:

  1. ensure sustainable development of port activities,
  2. boost our understanding of the environment in which Atlantic Port of Bordeaux plays a key role, and for which it has certain responsibilities,
  3. manage the natural areas of the port,
  4. enforce the port’s conservation regulations.
